Trace any photo
onto paper

Rest your phone on a cup, about 25 cm above the paper. Look at the screen and your picture sits on the sheet, faint enough to trace with a real pencil.

How it works

A cup, a pencil, and your phone

  1. Put the phone on a cup

About 25 cm above the paper, camera facing down. It does not need to be level: the tilt is corrected for you.

  2. Pick a picture

One of your own photos, or a drawing from the library. Drag to move, pinch to resize, twist to turn.

  3. Lock it and draw

Tap Lock and it stays put, even with your hand in view. Hold the lock button to unlock.

Made for real desks

The picture stays where you put it

The ghost pressing down the corner of a sheet of paper Lock

Lock it. It won’t slip.

Your hand moves across the page the whole time you draw. Once locked, the picture stays on the paper, hand in view or not.

The ghost pointing up Tilt

A tilted phone is corrected for you

No need to get the phone perfectly flat. BooTrace straightens the picture automatically, so a cat’s face doesn’t come out stretched.

The ghost startled, arms up Re-align

Bumped? One tap lines it up again

If the phone or the paper moves, take your hand away and tap Re-align. BooTrace finds your pencil lines and puts the picture back on them.

Uneven table or an easel

Tap Corners and drag the four dots onto the corners of your paper. The picture fits the sheet wherever it sits.

Questions

Before you grab a pencil

Does BooTrace shine the picture onto the paper?

No. You look at the paper through your phone’s camera, and the picture shows up over it on the screen. You draw on the real paper while you watch the screen.

What do I rest the phone on?

A cup, a mug or a stack of books, so the phone sits about 25 cm above the paper with the camera facing down. It doesn’t have to be level.

Is there a subscription?

No. BooTrace Pro is a single purchase. There is no weekly plan and no free trial that turns into a charge.

What can I do for free?

Trace your own photos as much as you like, turn them into basic outlines, use the starter drawings, lock, flip, grid and flashlight, and save time lapses with a small Boo mark. Clean outline has 3 free tries.

Are my photos uploaded anywhere?

No. The photos you pick, the outlines and your drawings stay on your iPhone. There is no account, no ads and no analytics.

The phone or the paper got bumped. Do I start over?

No. Move your hand out of the way and tap Re-align. BooTrace finds the lines you already drew and lines the picture up with them again.

Can I use it on an easel or an uneven table?

Yes. Unlock, tap Corners and drag the four dots onto the corners of your paper.

Which iPhones does it run on?

Any iPhone with iOS 17 or later. If Clean outline can’t run on your iPhone, Photo and Outline still work.
